A Little Band of Patriots Put to the Ma- chete.—A Supply Train Wrecked and the Spanish Guard Killed. Havana, vin Key West, Fla, Feb 17.—A band of 50 ineurgents from Gen Lacret’s army was captured by a Spanieb detachment ten miles from the city Monday. All were cut to pieces, not a man escaping Thein surgents surrendered after a short fight, but the Spenish guerillas put them to the machete, being so order- ed by Capt. Pardo, the officer in command. He claims he had Mar quis Ahumeda’s direct orders to serve all ineurgents near the capital in such a summary manner. Koppin, a Telluride, Colo., jeweler. who was en route to Pittsburg, Pa, in company with his wife, became insave last night on a Missouri Pacific train and the couple stopped here to secure medical attention Koppin had been on a protracted drunk and abruptly stopped drink ing on Sunday; with the result that nervous prostration followed. This morning he made a violent assault on his wife at Hotel Le Grande and she was saved from serious injury by the employes of the hotel. Kop- pio is now in jail and will be sent to the hospital At the death of Duestrow,the wife and child murderer, who was hanged Tuesday at Union, all obligations that he had contracted ceased, and the half interest he held in his fath er’s estate reverted to his sister, Miss Hulda Duestrow. No effort was made to arrest the disturbers. Two Lynched. Memphie, Tenn., Feb. 18 —A double lynching that occurred a week ago near Webb City, south of this city, is just made public. The telegraph operator says a couple of negroes set fire to the house of a farmer in order to run the family out and then rob them, the ineendi- aries having knowledge of a sum of money possessed by the family. The fire made rapid progress, but the family were slowin emerging. The neg'ovs became alarmed and aroused thew by bombarding the house. Finally the members came out bearing a trunk containing the money The negroes seized aud fled. A day or two later the negroes were arrested aud confessed. After com- pelling them to dig their graves a mob hung them.
