When found this morning, the | gas was sul] burning and the dead man was half reclining on the bed holding in bis banda copy of “Black Cat,” a monthly magazine, which he had evidently been reading. It is therefore surmised that Ceath was | due to heart trouble. Mr. Massie was so well known to | our people generally that it is hardly necessary to enter into the history of his recent life. He came to Rich | Hill in 1880, and was identified with | most of our publie enterprises here until his removal to Kansas City about 3 years ago. He was first en- gaged in the hardware business with J. L. Minor, and afterwards became cashier of the F. & M. Bank. He built the Massie block, in which the bank is now located and owned sev eral other pieces of valuable proper- ty bere, among them an interest in the Royce Ferguson coal land just south of town. More recently he gave most of his time to the gas company above mentioned, but was figuring on closing out his interest in that concern at a profitable margin. Mr. Massie was a man about 40 years of age. He was a native of Kentucky, but came here from Kan- sas City. He was married about 14 years ago in this city, to Miss Sallie!
