Sept. 27.—The decomposed remains of a man were found to day in a lonely place off of the road about two miles northwest of this city. No flesh was left and | nothing re xed but the bones and clothes. A 38 caliber revoiver lay close to his right hand, with one chamber empty. At an inquest to- day the remains were identified by | the clothes and papers found with John G. Black, who lives five miles north of here in Daviess county. Young Black, who was about 21 July 24 or 25. His friends thought he had goue to Chicago. It is sup posed he must have committed sui- cide, but what his motive for it was no one knows. Swept by Prairie Fires. Kiowa, Kan., Sept. 27. —A dis- astrous prairie fire is raging in the western half of the Cherckee strip and is sweeping everything before it. Several houses, principally prairie shacks and hay stacks without num ber have been burned. The fire started south of Kiowa, and it was thought that it would end at the Southern Kansas railway, but it jumped the track and now has a clean sweep for a cistance of a hun- dred miles without anything to stop it. Luckily the settlement is thinly populated, but there are a great many eatile and goat ranches that will suffer. Three homesteaders’ houses, north of Alva caught fire in spite of their efforts to save them, and burned to the ground with their contents. Marvelous Results. 1 From a letter written by Ray. J. Cua derman, ot Dimondole, Mich,, we are permitted to make this extract: ‘I have no hesitation 1n recommeding Dr. Kings New Discovery, as the results were al- most mavelous in the case ot my wite While I was pastor of the Baptist Church at Riyes Junction she was brought down with Pneumonia succeeding La Grippe. Terrible paroxysms ot coughing would last for heurs with little interuption and seemed as if she could not suryive them A triend recommended Dr. King’s New Discovery, it was quick in its work work and highly satisfactory in results.’’ Trial bottles tree at yourdrug store. Though lady voters were present at the meeting of the County Cen- tral Committee in Denver’ the pro ceedings were highly riotous, and when a good man called for order. there were cries of “Put him out”, “He’s off his trolley!” etc. Later two committeemen pummelled each other on the floor for ten minutes. Itis not unreasonable to suppose that the lady members of the com. mittee would have put in their time much better if they had been out on the road with their wheels.—Ex. Neenah, Wis. Sept. 25.—To save the life of her boy of 3 years, Mrs. William Dickinson, aged 29 years, suffered herself to be trampled to death under the hoofs of a runaway team of horses today. The child had been left in the wagon while the parents did some shopping, and the team took fright and broke lose and ran away. ed to stop them and was kicked and stamped to death. The horses were caught a few moments later and the baby taken from the wagon unhurt. | {¢ | due toa 1% t ‘eadact on the pper. J. Iz, & Co., Philadeiphia.
