FRIEND CARPENTER, The Game Dealer, East Side the Square, Butler, Mo. 3-Im Given Two Years. The trial of Boone Good, charged with stealing 15 bead of cattle from Jacob Showalter, resulted in a ver dict and sentence of two years inthe penitentiary. We understand the first ballot the jury stood eleven for the second ballot the jury were uvan- imous for conviction, the juryman casting the dissenting bailot stating that he did so for the purpose of testing the sentiment of the jury. The case was taken up Monday of last week and concluded Thursday night about 10 or 11 o'clock aud on the reconvening of court Friday dict as above stated. Many of those who attended the trial aud heard the testimony for and against and who expressed their opinion that while the state had a strong case of circumstantial evi- dence the result would either be a disagreement of the jury or acquit- tal. Both the state and defense were represented by able counsel, noth ing was left undone or unsaid to prove the innocence or guilt of the accused. General B. G. Boone and C. C. Dickinson, closed the arguments and better speeches have not been made iu the court room in many aday. Mr. Dickinson was at his best and his speech was fluent and convincing. With Gen. Boone the fight for the acquittal of the prisoner was more than a pecu- niary one, it was one for the pride and honor of one of the oldest and most highly respected families of Henry county, his life-long friends, that the youthwho bore thename of the speaker, asa token of their friendship, might not be disgraced.
