The cor- respondent learned from Mr. J. B. Young of Gordon, who was on the west bound train this evening, that ata point about two miles this side of Gordon four men, unmasked, ap proached the section gang and fore ed them to obstruct the road and | flag the train as it approached, and when the train was stopped the bandits forced the express messen ger to open the door of the express car. They also forced the section men to go into the car with a sledge hammer and try to batter the combi- | nation off the express safe, but their efforts to open the safe were unfruit- ful. The messenger,s way safe was baitered open and what money there | was in it was taken by the robbers. The amount secured, it is estimated, rans avywhere between $500 and $5,000.
