Auguet 15 — Frank Porteous, a young farmer liv- ing in Porage township, seven wiles from here, shot aud iustautly killed his wife early this morning. A much needed rain, which began falling at 3 o'clock was the cause of thetragedy When the storm broke Mrs. Proteous awoke and left the bed to close an open window Her husband was awakeued by the closing of the window aud seeing his wife’s shadow mistook her for a burglar.
