Judge Reece labored under the impression that court would meet Tuesday. He went down and inspected the jail however and expressed satisfaction at the progress of the work on that institu- tion. The jail is about eompleted, and is as substantial a structure of the kind as can be found in the state and is a credit to Bates county. William Culp,a bad young man who has been working as a farm hand near Merwin, is laying out a fine in jail for carrying concealed weapons. He is also held under a bond of $400 for the February term of court for shooting at Frank Sheets with intent to kill.
