Little Rock, Ark., June 7.—In re- ply to the attacks upon the south of the northern republican prese, Governor Fishback has sent the following communication to Harper’s Weekly addressed to the people of New England, New York and Penn- sylvania: In a recent paper read by me be fore the southern governor's conven- tion at Richmond I called attention to the fact that false impressions of the condition of affairs in the south are almost universal, not only in the northern half of our own country, but in Europe. A large number of the respectable press of the north deny that this is true New England, New York and Pennsylvania not only indignantly deny it but assume the role of mis- sionaries toward this benighted re- gion we call the south, and like Mrs. Jellyby, they are so intently solicit ous about the motes in southern eyes they are permitting a gool- sized and disgraceful mote to grow in their own eyer.
