Italy has had no rain for two months and the drouth in Spain is still more protracted. | Dry weather prevails in Hungary, Germany, Holland, Belgium and Denmark, and while it is not beliey- ed that the crops in those countries have been materially damaged as yet the situation is beginning to create alarm. Press dispatches from Southern Russia denote that the wheat there has been almost entirely destroyed by the weather and the late frosts. A disastrous drouth has just come toanendin North African coun- ties which export a few million bushels of wheat annually to Europe. There are complaints also in the Argentine Republic where hasty preparations are being made to sow the fields with spring wheat. The large surplus of supplies of wheat all over the world have pre- vented any material advance in the price of that cereal, as a result of the widespread and alarming drouth. There is happily a sufficient stock of wheat in this country and in Europe to allay all fear of famine, and the gravest condition to be ap prehended is an advance in the price of wheat which would impose a hardship upon the great body of consumers.—K.
