Republicav \f TO A COMMITTEE. ‘The Speaker Holds That the Anti Op- tions Bill is a Revenue Meas Washington, Feb. 3.—The speak er to-day sustained the point of or der raised yesterday evening by Mr. Boatuer that the antioptions bill having been amended by the senate so as to place a tax on a new article should be considered by the com mittee of the whole after first being referred to a standing or select com mittee. Mr. Hatch claimed that the sen- ate bill placed no tax on flour but. simply imposed a license on certain finds of dealing in cereals, but the speaker interrupted him to say that the bill certainly provided a tax of twenty cents a bushel on the men- tioned cereals. This coufused Mr. Hatch, and he caused a laugh by saying ‘‘yes.” ‘And twenty cents a bushel on ilour,” coutinued the speaker. “And twenty cents a bushel on Hour,’ Mr. Hatch repeated, but to save himself he moved that the bill be referred to the agricultural com mittee. A standing vote was taken on the previous question and 110 for and 60 against was the result. After the aunouncement of the vote the yeas and nays-were ordered ‘They showed 151 yeas and 84 nays, and the bill went to the agricu'tural committee. Stabbed full ot Holes. Palermo, Feb. 2.—The body of Sig. Nolabartolo, ex mayor of this city and ex-director of the Bank of S cily, was found to day beside the ranroad line near the ZXtavilla sta tion. He had been hulled by repeat- ed dagger thrusts. Investigation by the police has revealed that Sig. No!abartolo had started on a railway journey last evening. As the train teft tavilla two men were seen to enter the carriage occupied by the ex mayor. It is supposed that these men were seeking revenge upon Sig. Nolabartolo for some real or fancied wrong and that when they entered thecarriage the object was to kill him. Itis presumed that after he was stabbed tc death the body was thrown from the car window. The carriage occupied by the murdered man shows evidence of a terrible struggle. There is no clew to the murderers. The author of the Murray liquor jaw is still on deck. 1 Nonunates a Demo- yread comment late yesterday | sion the | jteachers of the publ i publicans were in- |she b i i ‘and det lthe case.
