A drove of 125 wolves was seen in that vicinity Monday afternoon. The Gullick children wandered away from home into the woods to- day and were attacked and devoured by the wild beasts. Their cries were heard, but before help react ed them they had been killed and part- ly eaten. Twenty-five armed men with hounds set out after the wolves surrounded them in a swamp and killed eleven of them, the others es- caping northward. Three hundred men will attempt to surround and exterminate them at their resting place, on the Anoka line, Sunday morning. A reward is offered by the state for every wolf scalp taken, and $5 will be paid the man who killa the largest number of the heasts. KING OF MOUND-BUILDERS. These gentle men have confined their excavations to the Hopewell farm, seven miles from here, on which are located over twenty Indian mounds. Saturday they were at werk on a mound 500 feet in length, 200 feet wide and 28 feet high. At the depth of 14 feet, near the center of the mound, they exhumed the massive skeleton of a man, which was encased in copper armor. The head was covered by an oval shaped copper cap. The jaws bad copper mouldings and the arms were dressed in copper. Cep- per plates covered the chest and stomach. On each side of the head on protruding sticks, were wooden antlers, ornamented with copper. The mouth was stuffed with genu- ine pearls of enormous size, but much decayed by the ravages of time. Around the neck was a veck- lace of bears’ teeth set with pearls. By the side of the male skeleton was also found a female skeleton, the two supposed to be man and wife. It is estimated that the bodies were buried where they were found fully 600 years ago. Messrs. Morehead and Cresson consider this find one of the moat important they have yet made, and believe they have at last found the King of the mound build- ers. Besides the articles named abeve there were found a pear!-stud- ded seeptre, many jars containing cein, etc., bronze and stone imple- ments, evidence of ashes and bones of animals. There are indications that the adjacent soil is full of valu- able articles. The finders are rejoic- ed at their find, and there is great excitement and hundreds of people have flocked to the scene.
