Notice is hereby given to the new- ly elected members of the county democratic central committee to meet atthe court house in Butler on Saturday, September 13, 1890, for the purpose of organizing and tak- ing active charge of the campaign. W. H. Mean, D. R. Braven, Secretary., Chairman. Col. Joshua LaDue is a clever gentleman and a fearless and able tariff reform debater. He was a can- didate for the congressional nomina- tion, as he had a perfect right to be, but his ridiculous actions and utter- ances since the convention, as ex- pressed through the Clinton Eye, is disgusting to even the Colonel’s most intimate friends. He abuses everybody, friend and foe alike, who had even the remotest connection with that convention. The Cass and Vernon county delegations, Judge DeArmond, Col. Stone, the St. Louis Republic and even his own delega tion, friends of his own choosing, are censured in his insane ravings because of his defeat. The facts are there never was a time in the history of the Butler convention when it was possible to nominate Col Joshua La- Due, and unpalatable as this may be to the sensitive mind of the doughty ol., itis true. The other candi- dates, all of them worthy and hon- -orable gentlemen, had ‘just as much claim on the democracy of this dis- -trict as LaDue, and have just as good grounds to kick, but they rec- ognize that in a contest where there is six candidates for one office, five must necessarily be disappointed, ‘they heartily acquiesce in the result and.are supporting.the nominee. If Col. LaDue wants to retain what lit- tle prestige he has in politics he had better return to his Blackstone and give up political journalism. If Mr. Quay should kill the force bill and save the tariff bill, and Mr. Reed should kill the tariff bill to a the force bill, the fame of the fifty fifth con would go thundering down the with that of the king of France who, at the head of 20,000 men, marched up the hill andthen marched down again. In such an event we should try to restrain our feeling, though a Kill- kenny encounter between Republi- can jobs would be a serious matter for the democrats who have the heart disease. If Mr. Reed will on- ly perform the threats his friends are making for him the country will have occasion to look upon Quay and Reed as the greatest uninten- tional benefactors. We do not hope for a great deal from these gentle- men, but Providence moves ina mysterious way.—National Demo- erat. | THE NEXT SENATOR. Major J. N. Bradley was in the city yesterday and gave usa pleasant call. He says that on account of his private affairs needing his at | tention he would have preferred that the nomination had fallen on other shoulders. However, Major Brad- ley is a true democrat and when his party calls, he disregards personal feelings aud responds with his means and ability. He further stated that he will not make an active campaign, but will, before the election, visit each county in the district and endeavor to sce as many of his friends as pos- sible. In the selection of Major Bradley to represent the 16th district in the State Senate the convention at Har- risonville made a wise choice. He possesses the ability to fill any posi- tion he would accept. Major Brad- ley is a large farmer and stock raiser, has followed that calling all his life and his interests and feelings are fully allied with the farming element. While be does not belong to the F. & L. U. order, he is in fullsympathy with that movement, and heartily en- dorses its principles as embodied in the Springfield convention. He is a man of broad views, of noble im- pulse, unselfish nature and has more warm personal friends than any man in the district. He has devoted the best years of a long and useful career to the democratic party, and it is fitting that he should crown his life work by successfully leading his party to victory and serving the dis- trict and state with his clear intellect, positive, though conservative nature and excellent judgment. —LLL_=I= Several years ago, it will be re- membered, the citizens of old Mt. Pleasant township voted to compro- mise the railroad bonded debt. At the time two bonds were missing ‘| which afterwards turned up in the| aco hands of parties living in Georgia. Last fall suit was brought on these two bonds in the Federal court, and the township board concluded to fight them and employed attorneys for that purpose. Tast week Judge Philips sustained a demur of these attorneys to the bondholder’s peti- tion. It is thought by those best capable to judge that this means de- feat for the bonds. If the bonds are illegal, then those compromised were, but the township will have them to pay now, all the same. EEE Col. Jcshua LaDue, political edi- tor of the Clinton Eye and defeated candidate before the congressional convention, seems to possess an ex- uberant amount of bile, which has to be worked off. As the Col. insists that he is “as good a democrat as lives,” we expect to see him fall gracefully iuto line for the nominee, after the full amount of kicking nec- cessary to relieve his overburdened system. Our government is founded upon the great principle “of the people, for the people and by the people,” and a party that attempts to array one class against another—that at- tempts to tear down one monopoly in order to erect another monoply on its ruins—that appeals to the pas- sions and prejudices instead of rea. son, is not deserving of, and should not receiye the suffrage of a free American people. Gubernatorial Timber. Mr. E. W. Stephens, of Columbia, is being mentioned around over the State as a cadidate for Governor next time. Without any disposition to commit ourselves to his support it is proper to say Mr. Stephens would make a good governor. He is @ young man of clear mind and clear morals. He is a native of the State and belongs to a family which has always been devoted to good works in building up the best interests of the State. He is an ernament to the young manhood of our land and the Brunswicker al- ways is glad to see such men com- ing to the front.—Brunswicker. In this connection we would sug- gest that South-west Missouri, will lay some claim to the right to name the next governor, and has some ex- cellent timber from which to select one. Prominent among which is Hon. Chas. H. Morgan of Barton county.—Dade County Advocate. Or Hon. William J. Stone of Ver-| ( | nen county. j eee ea a eS ; A New Hampshire dentist has out ia sign, ‘Teeth pulled while you wait.’ | Jhiv, 1890. ~ m2 FIOYS OMT Both the od and results when Syrup of taken; it is pleasant and refreshing to the taste, and acts ently yet promptly on the Kidney: iver and Bow cleanses the tem effectually, dispels colds, head- aches and fevers and cures habitual constipation.
