Topeka, Kas., April 28.—It is learned here to-day that a plan is being laid in Sedalia, Mo., for the purpose of removing the state capi- tol from Jefferson City. Abouta year ago several Topeka capitalists organized a company and built an electric light plant there. Since then the same company is putting in an electric railway and has pur- chased several hundred arcres of land around Sedalia. Another com- pany is being formed here witha capital of $250,000 to operate there, and it is stated that the city is tak- ing on a wonderful boom in the mat- ter of building public, improvements and real estate investments. But back of this is the State Capitol re- moval scheme, which it is stated, has been secretly planned for near- ly a year. A syndicate of Missouri Col. Joshua LaDue, was in the city a few hours Tuesday on his way from Cass county to Nevada where he expects to address the democrats | of that city to-night. The Col. looks hale and hearty and says he is not running for congress for his health, but expects to be nominated and elected. “ry BLACK-DRAUGHT tca for Dyspepsia. Montrose Democrat, May 1:— Judge C.D. Cole, one of the most substantial citizens of Bates county, of near Ballard, shipped 104 head of fine sheep to St. Louis Tuesday Cash Capital, is Surplus, $1,500,000. 150,000. and accompanied them. The Judge returned this morning and reports and excellent market, but a loss of five sheep on the trip. Lewis & Potter, the North Main street liverymen received from Illi- nois last week four magnificent black French coach horses to be us- ed as carriage horses at their barn. These gentlemen now have thirty- six horses at their stables and turn out as fine rigsas can be found in the state. The attention of our lady readers is called to the advertisement of Mrs. W. O. Atkeson in another col- umn. It will be seen that she has opened out a new millinery and dress making establishment in the capitalists and politicians originat- ed the movement, and it was partialy upon their promises that over $500,- 000 will be invested in Sedalia this year. It is the plan to keep the matter quiet until June, when a big meeting is to be held at Sedalia to which excursions will be run from surrounding cities and at which Sen- ators Cockrell and Vest are to be present. Then the capitol removal question is to be sprung and push- ed throughout the state. Trusted lieutenants have been selected in va- rious sections, and the fight is to be made in the election of the next leg- islature, and it is the belief of those interested that a sufficient number will be chosen favorable to the scheme to submit the question to a vote of the people. In the mean- ion meee ————a i TO THE FARMERS OF BATES COUNTY: j j Does this interest you? If so read carefully—For several years rates ofjinterest on Farm Loans have been gradually coming down, yet farmers have been and still are pay- ing a high rate of interest considering the security they have given. Reailzing this fact we have established a branch office at Butler, Mo., and it is our intention to furnish money at a lower rate than any loan company in the south-west. We have placed Messrs. Geo. M. Canterbury and Thos. W. Silvers in charge of our business, with full power and control of same. They have authority to close up all loans the same day that application is made, as we will carry a large amount of money on hand in bank. Mr. Geo. M. Canterbury has had large experience in the buisness, having been secretary of the Bankers Loan & Title Company., of this city for several years; as for Mr. Silvers, he has been before the people of Bates county so long he needs no introduction. The New York Commercial Ad- vertiser says: Last October General Trumbull of Illinois, writing for the Popular Science Monthly, quoted Whittier’s famous verse: **Barbara Frichie’s work is o’er, And the rebel rides on his raids no more,’’ and added: “True, the rebel raiders have dismounted, but ‘the boys in blue’ have sprung into the saddle and the raids go on.
