It always did make us weary to hear an editor grumble because the people would not more liberally support the paper, when at the same time the fault iies within his own door. Give the people something that they can digest and the patron- age will roll in like unto a ripe wat- ermelon rolling down the guzzle of a Georgia nigger, for the American people are a reading people, and will patronize anything inthe read ing line worthy of patronage.—Ex. Monday afternoon the gas compa- ny exploded 175 pounds of nitro- glycerine at a depth of 350 feet with the view of increasing the flow of gas and oil. At about that depth a small quantity of gas and oil was struck but the well was drilled to the depth of 800 feet, but on ac- count of caving the drilling was abandoned. This blast was put in in order to open up the crevices and seams in the rock where the gas and oil escaped. If unsuccessful in get- ting a larger flow, the hole will be abandoned, and very likely the com- pany will go southwest of the city two or three miles and drill several holes about 350 feet deep.—Cass Co.
