McElree’s WINE OF CARDUI for female diseases Missouri’s War Claim. Tuesday Senator Cockrell reported from the senate comittee on military affairs his own bill to authorize the secretary of the treasury to examine certain vouchers filed or to be filed by the state of Missouri for sams claimed to be due from the United States government on account of payments made by Missouri since April 22, 1862, to’ the officers and enlisted men of her military forces during the war of 1861-5. The re- port accompanying the bill shows that a measure precisely similar_to the present one was favorably re- ported by the committee and passed by the senate in the forty-eighth, forty-ninth and fiftieth congressss and was favorably reported in the house but no action was taken. The state of Missouri expended large sums of money during the war in keeping up the militia and nearly $8,000,000 has been paid back by the United States government, but there are balances still due, the ag- gregate amount depending on the vouchers and claims that have been filed or are yet to be filed. Senator Cockrell is making an early start with the matter this session and hopes to have the bill passed. Rheumatism and Dyspepsia Cured. Montreal, Dec. 13.—Since the visit of the Montreal aldermen to Dututh, Minneapolis and St. Paul most of them have become red hot annexa- tionists and freely express them- selves assuch. To-night the nation- al club, the leading liberal organiza- tion in the province, put itself on record. The question was if Canada would be benefited by annexation. The principal speaker was Premier Merciers, son in-law of Gonin,a prom- inent lawyer, who made a speech in which he showed conclusively that annexation was preferable even to independence. Trombley, another speaker, made que of the most tell- ing spaeches ever heard on behalf of annexation, at the end of which the club rose en masse and declared un- mistakably for union with the Unit- ed States. ~ Cold Wayes.
