Holt, of Rich Hill, infornied a Times reporter that he found the remains of a miner by the name of Culvertson strewn along the railroad ivack between the Rich Hil! depot and the smelters Tuesday morning. It is supposed Culbertson started home along the railroad track drunk and was killed by a train. Mr. Holt also said that a negro had his foet crushed by the cars at Rich Hill early Tuesday morning. Lane is the only man in Bates Co. that ships poultry and eggs by car loads. A couple of women who bear an unsavory name, seated in a buggy, were taking in the town Saturday evening. Both were drunk, and in addition to fast driving rent the air with horrible oaths. As they passed out of town on the road leading east they were singing at the top of their voices “we won't go home till morn- ing.” Such characters should be promptly arrested and _ properly punished. Me Connell, has crossed the river and is now dwelling with those that know not death, sickness or sorrow. For eight long, weary weeks she battled with a severe attack of spinal dis- ease, and everything that could be done by loving parents and medical skill was done but alas, alas, on Thursday last the summons came, and Belle, the bright little Sunday school student, closed her eyes and peacefully went to sleep in the arms of the angels that awaited to bear her spirit home. The funeral serv- ices were conducted at the First Presbyterian church, Saturday, ina very impressive manner by Rev. Francis, Rev. Walker, pastor of the church, being absent in New York, after which the remains, followed by relatives, friends and her Sunday school mates were borne to Oak Hill cemetery and laid to rest. Two hard looking tramps who gave their names as Thos. and James Gotten were brought to the city Saturday evening and jailed on a warrant charging them with grand larceny and burglarizing the resi- dence of Bob Wilkerson, in East Boone township, Friday last, while the family were absent from home. The two thieves were captured by Tom Mudd and tried before Esq. DeJarnett, who bound them over to await the action of the grand jury. The articles taken from the resi- dence was a watch and some valua- le papers.
