Statesm-1, capitalists, manufacturers, bankers, railroad officials, as well as intei!.- gent farmers, mechanics and day laborers, ali express confidence in the situation, and all agree that the signs of the times point in the right direction for general business pros- perity. The voice of the people and the tone of the press, throughout South- west Missouri, especially, were never more cheerful at this time of the year, indicating that our people are awakening to a realization of the importance of advertising to the world the great advantage our sec tion of country possesses over any other for the permanent home seeker, and the investment of honest capital in mining and manufacturing indus- tries, and in agricultural and horti- cultural pursuits. Iron, lead, zine, nickel, silver, coal, petroleum oi, natural gas, and other valuable ores and minerals underlie a large portion of the country; and altogether, there 1s ncthing needed but a well organiz- ed effort throughout Southwest Mis- souri, partieipated in by every city, town and county to awaken an inter- est and direct attention to our mani fold advantages, and to stem the tide of population and capital push- ing on, ignorant of these advantages, to the over-boomed, uncertain and unprofitable fields further west. With the very severe winter throughout the northwest fresh in our memory, the day of profitable investment passed in Southern Cali- fornia, the knowledge generally pre- vailing that the situation on the bar Ten mountains and sandy deserts | has been very largely over rated in the interest of money loaners, land speculators and mining-stock gam- bleis, many sections having very recently been virtually abandoned, the interstate commerce law forcing manufacturing interests ‘nearer con- sumeis, aud an impending European war, calculated to foster every indus- try in this country; now, indeed, would seem a most opportune time for Southwest Missouri, by united PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON, Office, tront room over P.O. Ladies In delicate health, and all who suffer from habitual constipation, will find the pleasant California liq- uid fruit remedy, Syrup of Figs, more easily taken, and more benefi cial in effect than any other remedy. It acts promptly yet gently on the Bowels, Kidneys, Liver and Stom ach, and does not sicken or debili- tate, in 50c and $1 bottles by all leading druggists. A Test Case. Cameron Mo., Feb. 6.—Dr. A. M. Collins, a prominent physieian and temperance lecturer, recently gave a prescription for two ounces of brandy, which was filled at the drug house of R. N. Williams, an out and out prohibitionist. This is claimed to be a violation of the loeal option law now in force in this city aud will very likely be made a test case, as both parties say they are willing it should be, and public sentiment is greatly aroused in regard to the matter. The local papers have sev- eral communieations and articles on the subject and scarcely anything else is talked of on the streets. The grand jury will probably take the case in hand.
