At the conclusion ot his remarks he took especial pleasure in referring to the name of his old friend Geo. G. Glazebrook, candidate tor sher- iff, whom he had known intimately and politically for the past twenty years. The governor said he had many dealings with Mr. Glazebrook both private and officially and had always found him to be honorable and upright, and he could cheerfully recommend him to the voters of Bates county as a man in every way worthy of their confidence and votes. During the past week or so a large and dangerous looking break has made its appearance in the east wall ot the court house. The crack ex- tends through from the arch up the east porch through the jury room and down to the foundation of the sherifs office. The break was so alarming the court deemed it advi- sable, (and wisely too), to take ac- tion in the matter of repairing the same without delay and before more serious results should happen. Mr. Huugh, the architect was called in consultation and after a critical im- vestigation it was decided to take down that portion of the wall effect- ed and rebuild it In addition to rebuilding the wall, stay-rods will also be run through the building to make it additionally strong. The contract tor doing the work was let to Mr. Hough at a cost of $500. | The contractor will commence work | without delay.
