Time sometimes changes things wondertully. Our road supervisor, J. W. Red- mon, has been doing some excellent work on the roads the past week with the ‘‘Boss’”” road grader. W. F. We've heard it hinted by some that a mixed or mongrel ticket weuld be put in the field against the one already nominated and that some prominent democrats would placed on it. We don’t have any fears of such a ticket, but let us say right here that whoever it 1s claiming himself to be a democrat and will suffer his name used on sucha ticket against the one now in the field and nominated by the regular democratic convention, deserves to be *‘set down on’’ by the democratic party of Bates county, because they are not true one be democrats; and, of all things in politics, give us anything but a half- breed ticket. Let it be democratic, republican or something else with well defined principles. Such tickets seldom ever win except in certain localities peculiar to such things; but as Bates county is not one of those localities, where a large per cent, of their voting population have no settled principles, politically speaking, we predict that if such a ticket is put out, it will be deeply snowed under in November, whea the cold waves of straight democracy strikes. as itusually does such things, its terrible blow. There is no cause tor any democrat supporting such a ticket, il one is put out, or any other than the one we have already out. | Our candidates now in the field are all, without a single exception, good men. There is not even cause for complaint trom any, unless it be from our township; but while we think we were not dealt fairly with by the committee on credentials, still we are determined to drop the mat- ter and look only to the best interests of the democratic party, and it our Summit boys can live over it politic- aly without k ing themselves out ot the traces, we are sure all others should, and we teel confident they will. Let the watchword be, snow under any democrat who allows his itching tur an office to prompt him, against his better judgment, to suffer his name to be put out against any candidate we have now before the people,so deep that he will never be resurrected by any political party again.
