Waler. San Antonia, Tex., Feb. 25.— From a reliable gentleman, who reached here last night from Luling, Tex., it is learned that there is great excitement and much _ indignation prevailing among the colored popu- lation. The cause tor it is about this: Some weeks ago a white tarmer named Taylor. living afew miles out of town, attended a colored ball at Luling. The blacks did not hke that, and one man named Rowan assaulted Taylor and beat him bad ly. In consequence of this a num- ber of Taylor’s friends entered the town Saturday evening masked and otherwise disguised, and went to Rowan’s house, took him away and hit him on the head with a six-shoot- er to keep him trom kicking. Then they removed the clothing from his body, and with ropes, cowhides and saddle straps administered to him a fnghtful thrashing on ins back. Not content with this, the maskers secur- ed halt a dozen temale street walkers (colored) and served them in a sim- ilar manner. TAP ADVANCING ALI. ALONG THE LINE. The mule struck at the bear sav- agely with both forward feet, but the bear dodged and thus cscaped the blow. Then the bear rushed at the mule, uttering a grunt ot anger as he did so, and tried to strike him in the breast. The mule, however, showed more anger and gmt than the bear did, and, as the bear came to- ward him, he struck the bear on the shoulder with one of his sharp calks, and the bear, groaning with pain, backed away. The mule quickly followed up the advantage he had gained, and the bear tumbled back- ward over a log, making the snow fly. The mule leaped over the log and struck the bear with both fore feet before he had time to get up, but he paid dearly for it, tor the bear twisted his head around and got the mule’s foreleg between his jaws and bit it badly. wNO RED See him before making: application elsewhere. ix Months, 1, 2,3, 4 or & Years Time.
