Jrrrerson City, Jan. 15.—The chief topic of discussion im the two branches of the Legislature, and in the lobbies of the hotels, is the Pro-! hibition question. of cold water and amassed and working with a vim worthy abetter cause. Dr. Brooks is the chief and is inclined to be ar- rogant and threatening in his advo- cacy of the temperance question. In his lecture in the hall of the House Friday evening last, , among other things he said that if the Dem- ocrats refused to submit the ques- tion at the present time, the Repub- licans, Greenbackers and 20,000 }. Prohbitien Democrats would com- bine. and in 1884 elect men to the Legislature who would submit the question. Yet*the good doctor dis- claimed any intextion of threatening anybody. Several resolutions, bills, etc., have been submitted in both House effecting the Prohibition question, but none have yet reached a vote. Representative Stapleton is the Prohibition leader in the House, and Senator Baiawin in the Senate, Many petitions have been received and read betore each bedy protest- ing against the submission ot a Pro- hibition amendment. CIRCUIT COURT STENOGRAPHERS. Mr. Kanthroff, of Cole, has in- troduced in the house an act author- izing each of the circuic judges in the State to appoint an official sten- ographic reporter for their respec- tive courts; that the reporters shall! be appointed by the judge and hold their office during the term of the judge, subject, however, to re- moval at any time for incompetency or neglect of duty. The provisions of the bills amend- ing THE DRUGGIST LAW are as follows: Section one changes the one gal- lon clause to five ga!lons. Section two changes punishment from fine of $40 and $200 to $100 and $500 for the first offense, and tor each subse quent offense adds im- prisonment in the county jai not less than thirty days nor more than three months. Section three requires druggists to preserve all prescriptions, date and number them consecutively, and produce them inevidence. The bill relating to MERCHANTS’ LICENSES. changes the one gallon clause to five gallons, and requires them to sell only on prescription as required by chapter roo. NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES.
