How that old one could | be enlarged so as to make it either respectable or comfortable is a huckle- berry above our persimon. A new 1 jail is what is wanted. The public weltare demands it. We, have in Butler in operation, and contemplation, several manu- facturing establishments of consider- able magnitude. Messrs. Legg & Catterln have in process of con- struction a large two story building on Dakota street, in which, when completed, wagons, buggies and other vehicles will be made in large numbers. The plaining mill, sash, door and cornice factory of Messrs. Wyatt & Boyd will be an extensive establishment. and will give employ- ment to quite a number of people. ‘Thé pottery, under the direction of Messrs. Miller & Haverling, is doing a good business. There are also mattress and bed spring factories, both of which are doing well. The woolen factory of McClintock & Co. make the best of goods. We have *reason to hope that this establish- ment will soon be enlarged to such a capacity as to enable it to compete with aay similar establishment of the kind in the country. The proprie- tors are making a good per cent. on their investment already, and their business 1s increasing daily.
