STOCK LEADERS OFF 1-6 POINTS UNDER PERSISTENT SELLING Late Comeback Fails to Carry; Steel Mill Operations Down 10th Week in Row New York, Nov. 22—(#)—Further depressing business news side-swiped the stock market Monday and, at the worst, leading issues fell 1 to 4 points; generally and as much as 9 or so in ® few cases. A mild comeback got under way in late dealings after U. 8. Steel and numerous others had slumped to new low territory for the past two years ©: longer, but it failed to carry far. Selling speeded up in the closing period and the ticker tape was a few minutes behind. Chilling sentiment was the tenth consecutive week’s drop in steel mill operations, For the current week these were placed at 31 per cent of capacity against around 80 per cent when the lengthy recession began in September. The rate was the smallest since December 3, 1934. Steels and motors led the morning slide. Transfers were around 1,500,000 shares, Bonds weré mostly down, with rails in supply. Foreign securities markets weakened after a fairly good start. Commodities were uneven. Wheat at Chicago fell sharply at one time but cid better at the finish, showing net losses of % to 1% cents a ‘bushel. Corn yielded % to %. Livestock SOUTH ST. PAUL South 8t. Paul, Nov. 22—(7)—(U. 8.
