FOLEY INURED GROSSING , PASADENA STREET North Dakota's Poet Laureate Suffers Two Fractures of Leg in Accident Struck by an automobile as he was crossing a street, James W. Foley, North Dakota's poet laureate, suf- fered severe fractures of the left knee and tibla and is confined to a Pasa- dena, Calif. hospital, according to letters received by Bismarck friends from Mrs. Foley. Foley, who now is a columnist tor Pasadena Star-News, was on his to work last Saturday morning the accident happened. As he stepped from a curb to a pedestrian lane, a reckless driver rounded a curve and knocked Foley down. Physicians told Mrs, Foley that the poet probably escaped more serious injuries because he fell on his hands and knees and prevented possible skull fractures or worse. Foley was rushed to Pasadena hus- pital in a state of shock but quickly passed the acute stage. His leg now iz in a cast from thigh to ankle, and he will be bedridden at least six weeks, Bismarck friends said Tuesday that the scores of persons whom Foley has cheered in sickness and sorrow now have an opportunity to repay his Kindness by dropping him a line.
