The famed humorist enters into the spirit of “Handy Andy” with a gayety that is apparent in none of his previous film comedies. Per- suaded to attend the masquerade ‘all at the New Orleans Mardi Gras, Rogers is infected by the hilarious festivity to indulge in a broad humor at marked variance with his custom- ary laconic wit. The story of what happens to a popular druggist, contented in his long-established business, when he surrenders to his wife's pleas, retires and tries to learn how to play, “Handy Andy” brings Will from his small- town home to New Orleans for the ‘Mardi Gras, where the shenanigans ensue. An engaging romantic addition to the general hilarity is the love be- tween Robert Taylor and Will's COUPON and Adolphe Menjou are co-starred, offer interesting contrasts, covering, as they do, such diversified locales as @ theatrical boarding house in New York City, a modern night club, the pent house apartment and offices of 8 Broadway producer. the library of @ millionaire’s Long Island estate and @ broadway playhouse on the night of an important opening. Al- though the time of the film is the present, these old establishments have not changed in forty years. Things have been added to the orig- inal old brownstone front8 that house these places, but none of the old furnishings has been thrown out. Electric lights have replaced gas, but the old gas wall fixtures and chan- deliers still are utilized. The furnt- ture has been patched, or. covered with tidies, but remains the same old, plush type. The pictures on the walls run the gamut from the early bur- lesque days to modern times. Gloss in sateens can be restored by washing in borax-water.
