Hill, noted commentator and newspaper writer, will join forces once again as an- nouncers of the Tommy Farr-Joe Louis heavyweight championship fight, which will be broadcast from the Yankee stadium, New York, suf | Thursday, Aug. 26, over the National Broadcasting company. The broad- cast will begin at 8:00 p. m. (CST). It will be the fourth time that Mc- Carthy and Hill have been paired in the NBC broadcasts of heavyweight boxing contests. McCarthy, with his accurate and speedy (224 words a minute) description of the fight, and Hill, with his colorful description of what goes on between rounds, were selected because of the thousands of letters received on their perform- ances in the three previous fight broadcasts. The reporting of McCarthy Hill on the Louis-Baer fight in 1935, the Louis Schmeling fight in 1936, and the Louis-Braddock fight earlier this year brought thousands of favorable letters from fight fans all over the world. Some of them came from sailors at sea and others from sports enthusiasts in out-of-the-way places. The broadcast will be shortwaved tw Europe, South America and other foreign countries by NBC. . One Man’s Family To Have Wedding One Man’s Family is making plans for the wedding of Cliff Barbour and Ann Waite. Festivities preceding the ceremony begin on the broadcast over the NBC red network at 8:00 p. m. (EDST) on Wednesday, Aug. 25 The Barbours give a shower for the couple and many presents arrive. The shower will be climaxed by the arrival of a letter which surprises Cliff, Ann and the entire family. This installment of the serial, written by Carlton Morse is entitled, “A Shower for Clifford and Ann.” The entire installment does not concern. the shower, however. At the end of the event, Mother Barbour finds herself playing a motherly role both to her son and her future daughter-in-law. Ann’s mother is dead and the duty of explaining to her the seriousness of marriage vows and the sacrifice wives must make, falls |” upon Mother Barbour. They appear in an intimate scene. Finals in Boxing On NBC Wednesday The finals in the Catholic Youth organization boxing bouts between & picked team of 16 amateur Chicago boxers and a team representing South America will be broadcast via short- wave to South America and over the NBC-Blue network from 9:30 to 10.30 p. m., CST, Wednesday, Aug. 25, from Soldier Field, The CYO team, which has never lost a tournament since inter-city bouts were started in 1932, will be meeting its first foreign foe, and a crowd at least 40,000 fight fans are expected to witness the event. Chicago's team of 16 boys will be selected from 75 glovetossers now in| a: training at a camp at Lockport, Il. These 75 were, in turn, selected from 2,500 contestants in the Chicago arch- jciocese.
