In knocking out Mike Montoya, Joe beat former middleweight champion of the Rocky Mountain area. Mon- toyna had held that crown until it was knocked off by Young Joe Louis. Won Both Titles Because Louis went out of his class to fight Montoya, Jaramillo figured he could also. Joe wanted to prove he was just as good a man as Louis. He belted out Montoya and then went on to conquer Louis and win not only the middleweight crown but also the welterweight title.
