THOERSEN CHARGES SENATE ‘COERCED BY ADMINISTRATION Says Special Session Called Primarily to Add to ‘Pol cal Working Force’ A few hours after the special eee sion of the North Dakota legislature adjourned Wednesday Lieut. Gov. T: H. Thoresen charged Gov. Willism Langer with “intimidating and co- ercing the senate” and calling the extra session “primarily for the pur- pose of adding to his political work- ing force.” The broadside against the state's chief exectitive came in a broadcast during which Thoresen reviewed the activities of the legislature since it convened two months ago. “Today the truth came forth as to the real reason for the special ses- sion,” he declared. ‘Thoresen asserted that the senate income tax measure carrying a cor- poration tax limited at 6 per cent or one and a half per cent less than the house was by the house in a “deal” to obtain a 15-man highway patrol. / Killed By ‘Own Forces “The highway patrol bill had been killed by his own forces because it did not give him enough power,” ‘Thoresen said. “So he made your representation agree to accept the re- duced income tax rates if the others would help him increase his pollti- cal machine by giving him 15 patrol- men. ‘ The lieutenant governor contended Governor Langer had failed to keep campaign: pledges to reduce sppro- priations, to reorganize and reduce the regulatory and beer departments and curtail unnecessary offices and bureaus.
