The recommendation for ex- pansion of the army and navy en- lvened sircrafts, steels, shipbullding issues and many others. A late upturn in the rails spurred the list to its best performance in the final-hour. The ticker tape was frequently in arrears: and transfers approximated 3,300,000 shares. Automotive stocks were backward as strikes spread in General Motors plants, but they did better near the finish. The major motor maker. aiso announced December world sales were the largest for any month on record.
