The newcomer is Columbia's “And So They Were Mar- ried,” which features Melvyn Doug- las, Mary Astor, little Edith Fel- lows, and Jackie Moran. ‘The screen play is as spirited as an unbroken colt, and moves irresist- ibly to @ novel, enchanting conclu- sion. Briefly, the screen narrative relates the misadventures of @& wealthy widower and a beautiful di- vorcee and their rascally children, marooned at a winter resort high in the mountains. Though mother-and- daughter and father-and-son are out- spoken in their detestations of the opposite sex, Douglas and Astor soon find themselves hopelessly in love. The attempts of Edith Fellows and Jackie Moran to separate their re- spective parents, and later to bring them together again, provides most of the delightful comedy. Filmed against the scenic wonders of the High Sierras, “And So They Were Married” is breath-takingly beautiful. With excellent photog- raphy, a grand script. and inspired acting by the cast, the picture has all the requisites of top-flight film- fare. Elliott Nugent's direction is the finest of his career. His hand- ling of the comedy situations leaves nothing to be desired. “Parliament members are lable to imprisonment in the Clock Tower at the order of the speaker for persist- ent absence from the sittings of the House.
