Stop in and on POINT DIP OR MORE Selected Utilities, Rails and Specialties Only Issues Bucking Trend New York, Dec. 18.—(?)—Stocks took a nose dive for 1 to 3 or more points in Friday’s market, but the trrival of support in the latter part of the session enabled many to re- duce losses. Selling, however, was vrominent just before the finish. Selected utilities, rails and special- ties bucked the trend from the start, = number closing higher. Transfers Were around 2,000,000 shares. There was still plenty of buying ammunition for the list, but brokers thought the inability of leaders to climb out of a rut the past few days inspired some traders to unload com- mitments. Growing labor problems were also cited as a retarding factor. Aiding the utilities were signs that electricity consumption is moving to- ward new high record levels. The] Boeing Airpl carriers were benefitted by a less than. season decline last week in freight shipments and pleasing November op- erating statements from the princi- pal systems. : The market was a quiet see-saw af- fair following the opening. An aval-| Can. anche of offerings in the industrials, led by steels and motors, swept prices down speedily in the second period. For 8 time the ticker tape fell behind floor dealings. Wheat quotations soared in all markets as world demand attained huge proportions. Rubber futures jumped to new recovery tops. Foreign currencies were quiet but generally off in terms of the dollars. Bonds slipped moderately. Livestock SO. ST. PAUL South St. Paul, Dec. 18.—(7)—(U. B. Dep.
