{ sie GLANCES - - By George Clark | Soa er “We haven’t Schubert's Serenade, but here’s a number that was stolen from it.” AT THE Trene Dunne Scores Great Hit in Comedy A brilliantly written, superbly act- ed, delightfully «directed romantic comedy, “Theodora Goes Wild,” which opened yesterday at the Capitol Thea- tre, definitely ‘chooses to run” in the ‘annual critical pow-wows which de- cide the year's “ten best” pictures. Firstly, “Theodora Goes Wild” is screen entertainment which com- ines delightful nonsense with a plausible story, scintillating perform- ances by Irene Dunne, Melvyn Doug- Yas and a large supporting cast, sparkling dialogue by scenarist Sid- ney Buchman and truly inspired di- tection. ‘The greatest surprize of all is the introduction of Irene Dunne as a full-fledged comedienne. Miss Dunne’s “Theodora” is a small-town nobody who wins great fame under a nom-de-plume as the author of a series of spicy, sophisti- cated novels, Her identity is kept aecret until Melvyn Douglas, as a happy-go-lucky illustrator, discovers ‘who she is, follows her home, and in @ brief courtship wins milady’s heart. In the crop of one cormorant were found the remains of 76 anchoives, of which was fourf or five inches MOVIES | Romance Runs Wild In ‘Love on the Run’ Romance runs rampant, adventure has its fling and love conquers all in the ‘delightful new M-G-M comedy melodrama, “Love on the Run,” which is showing at the Paramount. Team- ing those two exhilarating and color- ful personalities, John Crawford and Clark Gable, in a dashing tale of modern doings: by ultra-modern peo- ple the new picture provides excite- ment and laughter in an entertain- ment melange of an heiress, a for- tune-hunting nobleman, two Ameri- can correspondents and a brace of Eu- ropean crooks. As a contrast to her recent histor- ical role of “Thé Gorgeous Hussy” the versatile Miss Crawford this time ap- pears asa distinctly 1936 streamlined- model girl dressed in those dazzling creations that only she can wear 60 well. She is supposed to be Sally Parker, daughter of an American mil- loaire besleged by the nobility of the foreign capitals, and she looks every inch the part. Ribs serve to strengthen the body walls against outside pressure, yet whales, which are able to withstand a body pressure of hundreds of pounds per square inch, have only nine pairs of ribs, less than any other mammal on earth. | CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT'S | HAPPENED TO TILDA — \ PROMISED FULL eee ROME IN TIME TO SER iS NWweELve O'CLOCK WHERE'S YouR GIRL, DON'T CALL HER MY GIRL!
