~ "GOVERNMENT HAS | THREE PLANS FOR CROP INSURANCE & Payment in Kind Visualized by Erickson After Visit in Washington Three plans for crop insurance are under consideration by the national government, Insurance Commissioner- elect Oscar Erickson of ‘Bismarck, said ee on his return from Washing- mi. Representing the state department, Erickson conferred. with officials in the department of economics in the department of agriculture which has charge of working out some kind of crop insurance, he said. “We were informed that three plans were under consideration, but that one of these was meeting with consider- able opposition from the old line in- surance companies who warited to continue to write hail: insurance,” Er- ickson declared. Opposition was received to the plan of “all coverage insurance payable in cash,” Erickson reported. “Another Plan was to insure and pay with de- livery in kind which would mean the » storage of surpluses in terminal ele- vators, while the third plan talked about was to protect by hedging ac- counts.” “At present,” he said, “they are Working on districts by states using the old AAA figures for a five year base.” “There seems to be no other fi available, not even for this state al- though we have been paying the assessors for years to make a crop census every year to be filed with the commissioner of agriculture and la- bor,” Erickson explained, “It looks like the plan will work something like this: “If it is shown a certain district for @ five year period will average nine bushels to the acre and one year * comes along when the thresher’s books show he only threshed six bush- els he will be paid in kind for the other three, or market price in cash, depending on the plan worked out.” LONDON LINK WITH BYGONE AGE BURNS Duke of ‘Kent Watches as Flames Destroy Historic Crystal Palace London, Dec, 1.—(#)}—Historic Crys- cal palace, one of London's intimate links with a bygone age, lay Tuesday in smouldering ruins. He drew a cont between Com- munist youth and “the youth of Hit- ler’s Germany,” who, he said, “find beating up Jews and other anti- Semitism easier than jumping with parachutes.” Tiyinsky detailed the number of young men and women trained by Osoaviachim (voluntary society for preparedness for air and chemical de- fense) as follows: 1,700,000 Voroshiloff sharpshooters. 60,000 snipers and. sniper instruc- tors. 4,600,000 experienced chemical and aerial defenders. 54,000 horsemen.
