AT THE MOVIES © M’Murray and Oakie | Cast in Epic Picture Fred MacMurray, Jack Oakie and Jean Parker have leading roles in King Vidor’s history-making epic of the early days of the Lone Star State, | _ “The Texas Rangers,” booked to open | ‘Thursday at the Paramount Theatre. Setting a moving, romantic story sgainst a background of action, “The | Texas Rangers” recreates scenes of | early Texan history, showing for the) first time the vast job undertaken by | the state rangers when they swore to| drive out Indians, kill bandits, and make Texas a reasonably safe place in which to live. Both MacMurray and Oakie join the fearless band of peace-officers in the picture, first simply in order to gain an easy living and then, in- spired by the ideal of the ranger or- with real intent to carry out the oath. Action-filled, dramatic, and re- flecting an accurate historic back- “The Texas Rangers” is lib- erally rounded out with comedy, pro- vided by the irrepressible Oakie, and | with romance, centering around Mac- | Murray and Miss Parker. Chief supporting roles in the film are carried by Lioyd Nolan, Edward Eilis, Bennie Bartlett, and other out- movie personalities.
