Their thoughts, apparently, were on the question of how to pry enough Republicans out of the G. O. P. give their candidate the nucleus for 15) an organization ‘in the presidential race, still do him no damage in the contest for congressman, in which he is a Republican. There had been some talk that Lemke might not file as a candidate : for president in North Dakota be- cause of his congressional candidacy but this was ended by the announce- ment of Jack Patterson, Minot, state manager, that presidential electors will be placed on the North Dakota ballot by the Union party by petition. Only 300 names are necessary. Patterson accompanied the state- ment by a prophecy that Lemke, “will carry North Dakota as a presidential candidate this fall, and not only that, he will secure enough votes in the nation to be the next presiqent.” Few, if any, in either party meeting seemed to agree with that, the con- ,|sensus of opinion appearing to be that Lemke will run third in the presidential contest in this state.
