Murder Is Cupid’s Aid In Powell-Arthur Film Murder mystery proves a romance- wrecker and cupid combined in Wil- liam Powell and Jean Arthur's new co-starring picture, “The Ex-Mrs. Miss Arthur appears as an ex-wife of Powell, a detective tale authoress who gave him the jitters all through marriage by looking at life as a con- tinuous mystery thriller, But it's murder-and-mystery that breaks down Powell's determination never to ruin his nerves by yielding to her charm again. For while pur- suing him to lead him back to the altar, the lovely Miss Arthur allows her passion for solving crime to involve them both in a series of weird mur- | ders, and the intimacy demanded by their united stand against the killer soon spices dangerous adventure with romance, As in “The Thin Man” and “Star of Midnight,” which made Powell first sleuth of the screen, love is a gay, humorous affair, alternating ardor with pranks and jests. The comedy with which Powell and Miss Arthur highlight their exciting adventures is added to considerably by Eric Blore who “buttles” as he did in “Top Hat.” James Gleason, Rob- ert Armstrong, Erin O’Brien-Moore, Lucille Gleason, Lila Lee, Frankie Darro, and Frank M. Thomas appear in support.
