Joel McCrea, last seen with her in “Barbary Coast,” @gain appears opposite the star in * this Rachel Crother’s story. All that remains of the once-great House of Lorrimore is its Fifth Ave- hue mansion, dominated by the im- perious and embittered old Mrs. Lor- rimore, whose schemes to recoup the family fortune by marrying her son Brighton ‘to an heiress are shattered when he brings home his pretty but penniless Southern bride, Phylis Man- ‘The story reaches a gripping climax when the selfish and ambitious dowa- ger pushes the girl into an affair with @ wealthy and influential man and wrecks her marriage. Prominent in the supporting cast are Paul Cavanagh, Helen Westley, Billie Burke, David Niven, Katherine Alexander and Ruth Weston. ‘The Philippines, with all their 7,083 » have an area of only 114,000 miles, or about that of Ari- Wits ‘Boulder Dam’ Film Has Thrilling Drama “Boulder Dam,” a Warner Bros. production heralded as a drams of thrilling action, heroic deeds and glamorous romance, is scheduled as the feature attraction at the Capitol ‘Theatre on Thursday and Friday. The picture is based on Don M. Templin’s story of the building of this mighty project, and the lives of the daredevil workmen who blasted their way through solid rock and scaled the walls hundreds of feet above the river, is painted in the pic- ture in colorful detail. Ross Alexander portrays a shriking, disgruntled mechanic in a mid-West garage. In a fist fight with his boss, the latter is killed by a fall, and the mechanic flees. He lands at Las Vegas, where the dam was being built. In a dance hall and cafe he is about to be ejected as |@ tramp when Patricia Ellis, in the role of a singer at the club, intervenes, buys him food and takes him to her home, where he is welcomed by her kindly family. The mechancl goes to work and saves the lives of many of his fellows at the risk of his own, Lyle Talbot, in the “heavy” role, is in love with the girl and also knows of his successful rival’s past.
