Romance and comedy go hand-in- hand in this picture, in which Joan Bennett has the leading feminine role. Cast in important roles are also Colin Clive, Nigel Bruce and Montagu Singing Cowboy Rides Two Horses in Picture Dick Foran, star of First National's western pictures, has admired thor- oughbred horseflesh ever since he was knee-high to a Shetland pony. In his latest musical melodrama of the Open Spaces, “Song of the Saddle,” showing at the Capitol theatre, Friday, Dick gets a chance to ride two of the West's most unusual horses. The first of these is “Smoky,” a strikingly beautiful horse of the hue that Mexicans term “palomino de oro.” This, translated, means “golden buckskin,” and such is the general tone of the animal. He has, however, wings |® cream colored mane and tail which Club. He returns to Paris, divides half his winnings among his friends and then uses the remainder in pursuit of Zeer in the person of Miss Ben- ‘Miss Bennett, who had been hired render him, in cowboy eyes, a true “palomino” as distinguished from a buckskin, The second of Dick’s horses is a highly intelligent and trick-trained “Paint pony” or pinto, which answers to the name of “Sonny Boy.” The lat- ter pony, strikingly painted by nature, hhas dozens of clever tricks, as shown to Foran by his former owner and trainer, Johnnie Goodwin, Foran, as the “Singing Kid,” is the Tough-riding young hero of the song- | treated Western melodrama. Others in the cast include Alma Lloyd. Charles Middleton, Addison Richards and Eddie Shubert. A vegetable curiosity of the desert is the “screw bean,” @ product of the mesquite bush. The peculiar beans spiral in regular rows down to a point, and are used as a food by Indians of Death Valley, Calif. Vienna rolls are made to represent the Turkish crescent. Two baker boys saved Vienna from the Turks in 1683. and were given the privilege of mak- ing rolls in any shape they desired. They chose that of the crescent. America’s first model airway—be- tween Washington, D. C., and Dayton, O —was established by the Army Air Service in 1921. ‘THE BISMAKCK TRIBUNE, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1936 A FELLOW WHO'S AFRAID ) TAKE A CHANCE, SPENDS HIS LIFE PUNCHING SOME SMART GUY'S TIME CLOCK= RIGHT OVER THERE WITH THAT DESK-MY GOOD CANT Do \ WERE DoN' A IT, AIN'T WE?
