Penal Gripping Love Story Is Enthralling Film A love story s0 magnificent and compelling that the audience sat -hushed for a full minute after the final fadeout before breaking out into tumultuous applause unfolded on the screen at the Paramount Theatre last evening. The film was “The Dark Angel,” Samuel Goldwyn’s latest pro- duction for release through United Artists, and the chief actors in the powerful and gripping romantic dra- ™ma were Fredric March, Merle Oberon and Herbert Marshall. None has ever been cast to better advantage. Merle, delightful in her widely pub- licized new personality, shorn of the exoticism and mystery of her former roles, plays Kitty Vane, a sweet, young English girl, who since child- hood has been loved by one boy, Ger- ald (Marshall), while she loves his ‘cousin, Alan (March), Months in the trenches bring to Alan a realization of his love for Kitty. Home on leave he confesses his love but their ecstatic plans to marry on the morrow are shattered by a sudden order cancell- ing all leaves. They swear the mar- riage vows to each other and next morning Alan returns to the trenches. Alan is reported killed, and the ‘story proceeds to a powerful emotional climax and ends on a beautiful heart- eripping note. Magnificently acted, handsomely snounted and brilliantly directed, “The Dark Angel,” which Lillian Hellman and Mordaunt Shairp adapted from a Play by Guy Bolton, stands out as of the finest and most entertain- films in many a cinema season. United Airlines Fleet Used in ‘Ceiling Zero’ Through an_ arrangement sanc- tioned by the U. 8. Post Office de- partment, the United Airlines loaned First National Pictures not only a number of Boeing air liners, but all the equipment necessary to make “Ceiling Zero,” the Cosmopolitan pro- duction which comes to the Capitol Theatre on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The picture is an authentic saga of the romantic air service of the nation. Director Howard Hawks telegraphed R. D. Edwards, superintendent of United’s maintenance department in Cheyenne, making the unusual re- quest. The answer was a fast plane to Hollywood with others to follow. The equipment borrowed includes Planes, innumerable dispatch forms, weather reports, weather maps, stew- ardess’ hampers, baggage trucks which fit into the nose of planes, radio ear- phones, head sets, helmets, mail bags, etc. Paul Mantz, veteran mail pilot, was responsible for the equipment and for its correct use in the picture. James Cagney and Pat O'Brien are co-starred in this thrilling picture while others in the cast include June Travis, Stuart Erwin, Barton Mac- Lane, Henry Wadsworth, Martha Tibbets and Isabell Jewell. The screen play is by Commander Frank Wead, based on his stage drama. Seattle, Wash. has a monument erected to the memory of Segis Pie- terje Prospect, a world’s champion cow.
