Maurier’s well known novel, “Peter | Tbbetson” starring Gary Cooper and Ann Harding, coming Sunday, Mon- day and Tuesday to the Paramount | theatre. | When the picture opens, Cooper ‘nd Miss Harding are seen in the persons of Dickie Moore and Vir-! ginia Weidic: ages eight and six respectively. The next time they meet they are grownup, each ap-}| proximately 20 years older. As the) story progresses, the years pass by until at the finale Cooper appears as mn aged man, at least 80 years old. ‘The makeup of both stars correspond- ingly changed as they make the tran- sition from youth to middle and old Age. “Peter Ibbetson,” an immortal love classic that has been read as a book, seen as a play and an opera, now reaches the screen, deviating but slightly from the original work. It concerns the great love between a man and a woman, a love that nothing could break, a love that grew greater in & dream fantasy when cir- cumstances ruled that these two peo- ple be separated. A powerful, soul stirring romance, ‘the film is an accurate picturization of the novel whose popularity has strengthened rather than dimmed ‘with passing generations, Lo} Ruby Keeler Co-Star In New Naval Picture Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler are again co-starred in the new Cos- mopolitan drama-with-music, “Ship- mates Forever,” which opens at the Capitol theatre today. The famous screen lovers who made their first hit in “42nd Street,” following it with “Gold Diggers of 1933,” “Flirtation Walk” .and other Screen successes, appear in their most. Pretentious picture in “Shipmates Forever,” a thrilling drama of mid- shipman life at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. Dick sings a number of catchy songs which fall naturally into the plot, he being a crooner at a New York park casino before becoming a naval cadet. Miss Keeler, who plays the part of an orphaned daughter of a naval officer, compelled to earn her living dancing in a night club, gives an ex- hibition of fancy tap dancing with the famous Meglin Kiddies. Glamorous sequences have been taken with the Academy. as a back- ground, the film company having spent more than a month at Anna- Polis to get the real setting. Other dramatic sequences were “shot” aboard the U. S. S. Pennsylvania, flagship of the Pacific fleet ,under the technical direction of naval of- ficers, Chinese dinners in the mandarin class often consist of 24 courses and require the greater part of an even- ing.
