Directed by William Wyler for Producer Jesse Lasky, the picture throws these two romantics together in the sophisticated atmosphere of an ultra-luxurious hotel where most of the comedy incidents occur. ‘The two most interesting people in the hotel are Miss Dee, a little coun- try girl spending the proceeds of a sweepstake prize in the grand man- ner, and Francis Lederer, an Euro- pean prince posing as a bell-boy. ‘These two are drawn together by Jove. As the climax approaches, Lederer emerges as his true self and is arrested as in impostor. And then the picture proceeds merily to its close in which all the complications are cleared up and the lovers re- joined. Of foreign automotive sales of American products during 1934, about $37,000,000 were made in Spanish- speaking countries; $67,000,000 in English-speaking territories, and $88,- 000,000 in all other markets. Use of rotary, instead of the pres- ent type, valves in the motors of the future is predicted ‘by a well-known consulting engineer. Horror Chamber Built For Imaginative Film Visions of the strange, the unreal, and the uncanny, are conjured up in |“The Raven,” produced by Universal and one of the most thrill inspiring pictures, which comes to the Capitol Theatre tonight and Thursday. Based on the immortal classic by |Edgar Allan Poe and co-starring those two super “monsters” of the |screen, Karloff (Frankenstein) and Bela Lugosi (Dracula,) the graphic architectural descriptions in the film are actually startling. Although the story is laid in mod- ern surroundings, the unique settings include faithful reproductions of the imaginative creations of Poe, such as his horror chamber, mystic mansions, bizarre inventions, etc. A veritable underground city was erected for this production and the greatest care was given to every de- tail in the construction of the me- chanical appliances seen in the pic- ture, In sharp contrast to these Arabian-night-like scenes, are exter- jor scenes of much beauty amid an outward atmosphere of normality in every respct. in Germany with a permanently at- tached brake tester which indicates to the motorist the efficiency of his brakes by measuring the time requir- ed to stop after application of the brakes.
