The interesting feature of the new picture is the development of a new type of typical American music, a blend of Negro, hill-billy, Indian, and cowboy songs that have become tradi- tional. Ted Lewis introduces his own fam- ous specialties, such as “When My Baby Smiles,” “Me and My Shadow,” “Peanuts” and others, amid new music specially written for the pro- duction. “Headin’ Home,” by Herbert Stothart and Ned Washington, is a haunting yet inspiring song, sung by Harry Stockwell, New York stage star of “As Thousands Cheer,” who plays the juvenile lead opposite Virginia Bruce. Stockwell sings “Roll Along; Prairie Moon,” new Fiorito number. ‘Ted Healy and Nat Pendleton pro- vide a hilarious comedy team, the elephantine Pendleton being specially funny as a piccolo player. ‘An uproarious comedy sequence is the “amateur contest” in a radio sta- tion, and comedy is also provided by the “Army Band’ number by actors, placed among the musicians, for funny “gags” in the number itself. Many spectacular settings mark the , new picture. - Thrills, Heart Throbs, And Comedy in Film If you like thrills and heart throbs, spiced with side splitting comedy and coupled with a gripping dramatic story, you will enjoy every minute of RKO Radio's “Hot Tip,” which is at the Capitol Theatre today and tomor- Tow. James Gleason and ZaSu Pitts are teamed in the featured roles of the Picture that finds Gleason a restau- rant proprietor with a penchant for betting on horse races, but who is pre- vented from doing so by Miss Pitts, his wife in the story, because she holds tightly to the purse strings. Interest in the production quickens when Gleason accepts money from his future son-in-law to gamble on races in order that the young man will have adequate funds to overcome the ob- Jections of the girl's mother to the marriage. Gleason and Miss Pitts give delight- ful portrayals as the elders, the film giving them wide scope for their par- ticular brands of comedy. Additional comedy is supplied by Ray Mayer, Arthur Stone, Rollo Lloyd and Willie Best. Margaret Callahan, @ newcomer to the screen-and Russell Gleason, son of the star, enact the role of the romantic young couple. ‘The picture was co-directed by Glea- son and Ray McCarey and was based on the William Slavens McNutt “Red Book” story.
