FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1935 » ANOTHER SERIES OF WANDANRAIDS NETS QUANTITY OF LIQUOR x Nine Places Yield Booze, Punch : Boards, Stills; License Refusals Seen Another series of raids in Mandan Thursday night by the state beer de-| partment and federal agents which | yielded small quantities of liquor and punch boards was revealed Friday by Owen T. Owen, state beer commis- sioner. Raided were the Mint, Korner Bar, a beer parlor operated by John Wine- bauer, the Stag, Owl, Pullman Tour- ‘ist camp and the residence: of Adam ‘Miller, Owen said. Also visited by operatives of the state department and representatives of the Morton county sheriff's office, according to Owen, were the Keg, Ta- vern, Showboat, the Dome, the Cave and the Log Cabin, all night clubs. Seize Stills According to the sheriff's office at Mandan, federal agents seized stills at the homes of James Stamaris and John Kupper. At the Mint, Owen reported, a pint of gin was confiscated. At the Wine- ‘bauer place, two pints of whiskey and a pint of alcohol were obtained; a} half-pint of whiskey was taken from! the Korner Bar, and three bottles, partially filled, containing gin, whis- | ‘key and sloe gin were confiscated at | the Stag, Owen said. | At the Owl operatives took four | punchboards, then on a return raid, confiscated a pint of whiskey, Owen declared. Two partially-filled quart bottles | containing whiskey were taken in the| and two quarts of Scotch, two pints of whiskey, one and one-half quarts | of wine, and a case of sloe gin were obtained in the raid at the residence of Adam Miller, Owen said. D., Sept. 6.— Heart disease which struck while he was working on the Gustave Reetz farm near here caused the death last Sat- urday of George Washington Lincoln. Lincoln had resided here with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. I. B. White, since 1917. Falling from a bundle wagon in a field on the farm, Lincoln was dead when fellow workers reached his side. Lincoln, 60 years old, was born Dec. 16, 1874, at Tomah, Wis. He had lived at Spencer, Ia., and Wolf Point, Mont., before moving here in 1917. Besides Mrs. White, Lincoln leaves | four other sisters and two brothers, j including Mrs. Mamie Britz of Bel- field, N. D., Mrs. Pearl Short of | Billings, Mont., and Mrs. Alvina Hav- en of Kalispell, Mont. Funeral services and interment rites were conducted here last Monday with | Elder George Lowen of Dickinson of- | ficiating. —~—_—¢ oe ee | Today’s Recipe | a eee eee Small Sweet Pickles One peck small cucumbers, 1% pounds barrel salt, 1 tablespoon pow- ered alum, 1 gallon vinegar, % pound mixed pickling spices, 1 pound granu- |lated sugar. Wash pickles and put in deep crock. Sprinkle with salt, cover with water, weight to keep pickles in brine ;and let stand six weeks. Drain from brine and rinse in clear water. Re- jturn to clean crock, add alum and cover with warm water. Let stand jover night. The next morning drain and wipe dry. Make a syrup of vine- gar, sugar and spices and pour over |cucumbers. Let stand one week. | Drain off about 1 quart vinegar and a |add 1 pound of sugar.
