Regional Director for Girl Scouts Will Arrive Monday Marie Aftreith to Hold Course for Leaders and Inspect Camp Miss Marie Aftreith, regional di- rector for the Hiawatha region of the national Girl Scout organization, will make her annual official visit to the Bismarck Girl Scout day camp Mon- day. The Hiawatha region takes in North and South Dakota and Min- nesota, Miss Aftreith was here Tuesday unofficially before leaving Wednes- day for a series of general training courses for the councils in this area. She will hold a joint meeting of New Salem and Almont councils at New Salem Wednesday, going on to Glen Ullin Thursday where representatives of Glen Ullin, Hebron, Elgin and Flasher are to assemble for the course. Leaders from the preceding towns and Taylor, Belfield, Beach, Sentinel Butte, Ryder and Killdeer will meet at Dickinson Saturday. The morning will be devoted to a meeting for the captains of all these troops and in the afternoon troop committee members will meet with Miss Aftreith. A tramping and trailing course for experienced leaders from Bismarck and Mandan will be conducted by Miss Aftreith Aug. 15, 16 and 17. This will be an advanced course covering trail cookery, overnight hikes and all Girl Scout outdoor activities. Troop 10, led by Mrs. Mae Oliver; Troop 11, with LaVerne Joersz, lead- er, and Troop 12, led by Evalyn Her- mann, are those to whom invitations have been issued. Girls in these troops who wish to go are asked to register at the Girl Scout Office be- tween 12:30 and 5:30 Friday after- noon. Assisting in receiving were two other daughters, Mrs. E. F. Beltmann of St. Paul and Mrs. J. J. Tucker of Aiken, Minn. and a grand- daughter, Lorraine Beltmann. Fogarty. EDMORE MAN KILLED IN HIGHWAY CRASH Alvin Tollefson, 38, Crushed Against Stalled Thresh- er by Cando Man Devils Lake, N. D., Aug. 7.—(P}— Alvin Tollefson, 38, of Edmore, died in a local hospital Tuesday night of head injuries sustained in an auto- mobile accident near Fairdale early Monday morning. Tollefson, suffer- ing a contusion of the brain and several broken ribs, never regained consciousness. Wayne Clark, county engineer of Towner county, Cando, who was an occupant of the car which crushed | Tollefson against his stalled thresh- ing machine on a road near Fair- dale, was “resting better.” Clark was cut badly while Warren Tewxberry, Cando, Towner county agent, driver of the car, was treated for a small gash, then released from the hospital. No funeral arrangements have been made. Tollefson was a member of the Edmore American Legion post. dD. WORK OF STATE PWA WILL BE EXPEDITED Knudsen Calls Meeting for Sat- urday to Eliminate Causes _ of Delay An “urgent” meeting of more than 60 architects, engineers and other af- fected agencies, was called Wednes- day for Aug. 10, by C. E. Knudsen, acting state director of the federal public works administration.
