Baldwin Is Elect- ed President at Annual Picnic Tuesday A gavel made from the wood of the historic steamer Minnie-H, which oncé plied the waters of Devils Lake, was presented to the new Cosmos club president, Miss Bessie R. Bald- win, by Mrs. Lottie B. Sowles, the retiring leader, when the organization a of Mrs. E. J. Taylor, 511 Sixth it. Mrs. Sowles, who was the only del- égate presenting credentials at the organization meeting of the North Dakota Federation of Women’s clubs held at Devils Lake, was presented the gavel in recognition of her mem- bership in the state federation, which is the longest on record. Elected with Miss Baldwin were Mrs Fred Jansonius, vice president; Miss Chrissie Budge, secretary, and Mrs. Harry G. , treasurer. Miss Budge, reporting on the ten- tative outline of the 1935-36 program which will be called “Adventures in Reading,” listed the volumes from which program leaders may make their choice in preparing entertain- ment for their meetings. Mrs. M. W. Roan, chairman, and Mrs. Obert A. Oison and Miss Budge comprise the committee, Dr. Fannie Dunn Quain, who re- cently was elected to membership, was present for the first time at this meeting. Miss Josephine Hosch was & guest. Mrs. R. E. Wenzel was in charge of the picnic arrangements. * * Miss Dorothy Riggs Weds California Man Details of the marriage of Miss Elaine Dorothy Riggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Riggs, 425 Six- teenth St., to Richard Dowell, son of Mrs. P. Dowell of Long Beach, Calif., which occurred at Long Beach on Friday, June 14, have been received in Bismarck. The couple was married at a quiet service read in a: Presbyterian manse with the bridegroom’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dowell, acting as attendants. The bride wore a swagger suit tailored from a wool mixture with hat to match, a maize blouse and gold ac- cessories. Mr. and Mrs. George McCay of Long Beach, cousins of the bride, gave @ dinner for the bridal party, relatives and a few intimate friends after the ceremony.
