Your favorite actor—as well as ours and the other fellow’s—has turned again to the rural American scene for one of the most human, mirthful and Mlavorsome films in years. All of which is just another way of saying that Will Rogers is with us once more, this time in the title role of Fox Film's “The County Chairman,” at the Para- mount theater Tuesday. “The County Chairman” is a fine and atmospheric screen version of the famous George Ade comedy of the same name, which 30 years ago made the name and fame of Maclyn Ar- buckle as a stage star. It is a swift- moving and sure-fire story. But its Present producers have been wise enough to retain both the original locale, a small Wyoming town, and the original date, the year 1902, a tact which permits the use of the colorful types and background of those days, when political campaigns were fierce and frenzied—and not just talks by radio! The star appears as the fire-eating boss of a small town, who kisses all the babies, captures all the votes and brings together two estranged young In a scrap, however, he’s too handle! is rare humor and pungency this screen portrait, a notable ad- to the Rogers gallery of recent hits, which includes “David Harum,” ‘Handy Andy” and “Judge Priest.” ‘The problem of producing lighting from lignite in a direct way is reported to-have been solved by a engineer. egal Kansas supplies more volcanic ash, sed for abrasives, scouring powder @nd soaps, than any other state—and mever had @ volcano, Answer to Previous Puzzle 6Unit of work. 7 King of beasts. 50 Some. 8 Hoisted up. | timber for naval ships, - 14 Swift. 16 Respects., 48 Fodder vat. 51 Moor. 52 Lava. 53 Drone bee. 55 Ancient. 56 Chaos, 67 Street. 58 Ream. The big cast is headed by Warren William, Guy Kibbee and Claire Dodd, who for the first time is seen in a sympathetic role. A lovelier heroine would be hard to find. The story concerns a big-shot gam- bler, who decides that the insurance business is more respectable and al- lows the same opportunity for profit. He therefore starts an insurance com- Pany which offers to insure anybody against anything. Several hilarious episodes make the counter-plot a riot of joyous comedy. Among them are the incident of the Prospective father who wants to in- sure his wife against twins with un- expected results. Warren William, who is associated in the public mind with detective roles and drawing room parts, shows a real flair for comedy in “Don’t Bet on. ” and plays the part of the reformed gambler with a blitheness and verve that won his audience. Guy Kibbee is at his best as the good natured old rascal who almost ruins his daughter's happiness. He has @ masterly understanding of the role. Claire Dodd displays unusual ta- Tents as a comedienne.
