July 11.— (4) —Notwith- standing trade assertions that the do- mestic southwest wheat crop has been officially overestimated 40,000,000 bushels, wheat prices late Thursday failed to recover in full from early severe setbacks. Throughout the day, the grain pits displayed unusual nervousness and registered many rapid changes in sen- timent. Heaviest hedging sales of the season were a complicating fac- tor, together with bearish effects of government crop estimates. An operation will be per- formed next Monday in an effort to remove the cause of the ailment. Physicians ‘described the condition as a possible hyperparathyroidism. This means that the thyroid gland js over-active. Roosevelt Intervenes In Fight Over Probe Washington, July 11—(P)—The sen- ate’s investigation of the Virgin Islands was recessed “subject to the call of the chair” by Chairman Tyd- ings (Dem., Md.) today on his re- turn to the hearing room after a con- ference with President Roosevelt. The action was taken without ex- planation after President Roosevelt Personally had taken a hand in the controversy between Secretary Ickes and Tydings over the conduct of the investigation by summoning both to the White House. Tydings gave no indication as to when or where the inquiry would be resumed. Ickes, who “ precipitated a heated clash with the committee chairman by charging that he had “white- washed” a witness af the inquiry, preceded Tydings to the White House. Tydings charged Ickes sought “cheap publicity.” CHILD’S BODY NOT.
