Professional and non-professional singers throughout the country will be eligible for auditions in each city from which Duchin broadcasts and two winners—a man and a woman in each city—will receive cash prizes and & place on the Tuesday night program. Duchin and the audition winners will assume the starring position on the weekly broadcasts over an NBC- KFYR nationwide network in Wash- » Tuesday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. (CST). Fire Chief Ed Wynn retired for a rest following the broadcast of June 4, Each Tuesday night program also will be heard on the air by @ jury of persons, nationally known to the radio and entertainment world, who will select from the summer series four finalists who will be brought to New York for a final broadcast, the ultimate winners to be determined by @ vote of the radio audience. Plans call for the setting up of local boards of judges, composed of radio station managers, radio editors and local musical authorities, to conduct the weekly local auditions. This com- mittee will be assisted in making its final choice by Duchin and Louis A. ‘Witten, who has presided over the program for three years. Duchin and his orchestra will be on tour for 16 weeks with the Cocoanut Grove of the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles, where they will play for six weeks, as the western terminus of their trip. In this unusual new number, radio's service to mankind will be shown by music and voice.
