A number of such letters even have reached the national capital. j Where Attorney General Cummings warned employes of the justice de- rtment not to participate in the chain after it was disclosed that of- ficial department stationery had becn used to further it. It would be the department’s duty to prosecute any fraud cases that may arise from such chain letters. The letters are designed to bring to each writer $1,520 if the chain is unbroken. Solicitor Karl Crowley recently in- formed the postmasters at Denver and at Mason City and Des Moines, Ta, that the “send a dime” letters violate the fraud and lottery sec- tions of the postal laws. and are un- mailable. There has been considerable loss of livestock during the past few years from eating grasshopper bait, the board said, stating that in or carelessness in disposing of surplus bait or sacks containing the poison. “Farmers must realize that in the use of grasshopper bait they are deal- ing with one of the most deadly poi- sons, namely, arsenic,” the board said, “great care must be exercised at all time in the handling of this material, “Grasshopper bait should be spread in fine flakes, making sure that no lumps are deposited on the ground. The only safe way to dispose of the surplus bait and sacks which con- tained bait is by burning and then thoroughly scattering the ashes.” High School Band to Broadcast on May 15 Underwood, N. D.
