Crack corps of reservists were post- ed on the eastern frontier of France for @ three-month training period well in advance of the opening date ). |0f last year's maneuvers. The moving up of the schedule was laid also to the desire of the general staff to familiarize the reservists as quickly as possible with changed con- ditions accompanying motorization of the army. Louis Felix Maurin, minister of war, is eager to push the motoriza- tion rapidly. The first test will be in the full dress maneuvers in June. Each reservist is obliged to serve 21 days every three years. The course comprises intensive physical training, route marching, and target practice designed to bring all reservists up to date. The regiments call their reservists in batches so that they undergo per- iodical training all through the spring and summer. Hitherto the reservists, during the training period, partici- pated only in local maneuvers with the regiments to which they were at- tached. The general staff now has ad modern houses.
